The area
Hjarbæk is located idyllically surrounded by a hilly landscape with steep cliffs by the coast. Hjarbæk Fjord is characterized by an unspoilt and beautiful nature, and a part of the area is a bird reserve. Hjarbæk is known as a good sailing area where the world championship sailing race for the so-called “Sjægtebåde” is being held every summer. “Sjægtebåde” are the original fishing boats which have been used traditionally in the Limfjord. The area´s inn, Hjarbæk Kro, was established in 1867. Here you can enjoy a nice and traditional Danish meal. Also the town Viborg is worth a visit with Viborg Cathedral, the lakes with tourist boats and many exciting shops, restaurants and cafés.
