Idyllic Holiday Home on Samsø – Just 300 metres from the Sea
House-ID: 20224Holiday Home Idyll on Samsø – 300 metres from the water
Welcome to Vesterløkken – a hidden gem on Samsø, where peace, nature and togetherness are at the heart of everything. Here you will find a charming and personal holiday home at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, just 300 metres from the coast. In summer, a bathing jetty is set up so you can fully enjoy the crystal-clear water. The green, undulating landscape around the house offers a wealth of walking and running routes, inviting both relaxation and exploration.
The house – personal and updated with respect for its history
The holiday home has its own soul and story. High ceilings, floor-to-ceiling mullioned windows and classic summer house atmosphere meet modern comfort. The living room, kitchen and bathroom have been renovated, while the warmth and character of the house have been preserved through personal details, colours and furniture with history. The interior reflects flea market finds, heirlooms and a thoughtful aesthetic, without compromising on practicality and function.
The kitchen is well equipped with tableware and utensils for most purposes. For those seeking peace to read, write or work online, there is a room with a desk to retreat to. The house accommodates six people, two of whom can sleep in a quiet annex. The living room features a new wood-burning stove and direct access to a large wooden terrace overlooking the garden. Part of the terrace is covered, providing shelter when dew falls or the sun gets too strong. In nearby Pillemark, you can buy freshly dug Samsø potatoes and hand-picked strawberries to prepare and enjoy for dinner on the terrace. Barbecue dishes can be served with a glass of chilled white wine in the evening sun, in tranquil surroundings.
Natural garden with peace, wildlife and small outdoor spaces
The house is surrounded by a lush natural garden with wild grasses, winding paths and small green hideaways. Shrubs, oak trees and dense brushwood fences frame the garden, while a solid gate at the entrance ensures your dog cannot run out onto the road. There are several sunny spots on the property. In addition to the covered wooden terrace, there is a paved terrace behind the annex, sheltered from the wind – perfect for afternoon coffee in bamboo deckchairs. The garden furniture is fully updated and can easily be moved around depending on sun and wind. Early in the morning, you might be lucky to see a hare, while the calls of pheasants are often heard in the background. In the evening, you can walk down to the water and enjoy the sunset from the benches by the shore.
Vesterløkken and the landscape trails
Vesterløkken is an old and unique holiday home area from the 1970s, originally divided on former asparagus fields. The area is characterised by large plots, green paths and access to coast, fields and meadows. You can walk or jog along quiet lanes and nature trails connecting the area to Samsø Badehotel, the Ilse Made spring and the village of Pillemark. Views of fields, sea and woodland are broken only by wildlife and the sound of the wind in the treetops. Here, there is space and calm – whether you wish to relax, take a swim in the sea or sunbathe by the holiday home.
Bathing jetty and fishing
The beach is just a few minutes’ walk from the house, and in summer a bathing jetty makes it easy to take a dip – morning or evening. South of the jetty, there are good fishing opportunities, and it is possible to carefully drive fishing gear down to the water by car. From here, you can fish in peace while following the rhythm of the waves and the flight of birds along the coastline.
Samsø – island life, nature, local cuisine, yoga and crafts
Samsø is renowned for its magnificent and varied landscapes, peaceful villages and the unique calm that only an island can offer. The island provides experiences for nature lovers, bon vivants and curious travellers alike.
In the north, Nordby Bakker rises with dramatic and beautiful terrain – deep ravines, open expanses and sea views. The hills were formed by the movements of ice during the last Ice Age, when meltwater and glaciers created the rolling terrain we see today. You can walk for hours here, watching the light shift, the horizon open and nature reveal its most raw and breathtaking side.
On the west coast lies Stauns Fjord, a unique shallow nature reserve with rich birdlife, waders and rare plant species. The fjord invites quiet walks and close-up observations of nature’s finest details, and is especially appreciated by nature enthusiasts and ornithologists. On the east coast lies the fascinating Besser Rev – a long, narrow spit created by the forces of sea and wind, stretching nearly five kilometres into the sea. It is one of Denmark’s most distinctive natural experiences, where you walk with the sea close on both sides and feel a rare kind of silence and presence.
In the southeast is Ballen, Samsø’s cosy marina with cafés, ice cream shops, restaurants and small boutiques. Here locals and visitors meet in a relaxed, vibrant atmosphere with light, life and sea views.
Tranebjerg – the island’s hub
Tranebjerg is the main town of Samsø, just 15 minutes’ drive from the holiday home. Here you will find supermarkets, a pharmacy, small cafés and restaurants, as well as shops selling handicrafts, homeware and local produce. The town is a natural meeting point – calm and manageable, but with everything you need close at hand.
Samsø is also home to many local artisans who open their workshops during the season. You can experience ceramics, painting, photography and design in the island’s honest and down-to-earth aesthetic.
The island also offers a lively café and restaurant scene, especially in summer. All around Samsø you will find small farm cafés, ice cream stands and eateries serving local dishes, freshly caught fish and homemade treats. At Ballen Marina, the iconic Restaurant Skipperly offers seasonal gastronomic experiences with views of the sea and harbour. Here, dishes are prepared using the island’s own produce – including the famous Samsø potatoes, proudly and elegantly incorporated into the menus.
In recent years, the island has also developed into a hub for yoga and physical mindfulness. Several providers offer drop-in classes, special programmes and full retreats in scenic surroundings. In summer, for example, you can join morning yoga on Ballen Beach, starting the day with a view of the sea and the sound of waves as your backdrop. With the sea, light and silence as its setting, Samsø provides ideal conditions for peace, presence and inner balance – whether you are a beginner or an experienced yogi.
