Recommendations from Holiday home owner

We hope you enjoy your stay in our lovely holiday home.

In the living room, there are binoculars that we use frequently to watch geese, small birds and herons. The garden is completely secluded from neighbours. In the evening, it can get completely dark, so you can enjoy the stars. The grocery store in Tirstrup is 4 km away, and it is not far to all of Djursland's attractions, such as Djurs Sommerland, Ree Park, Skandinavisk Dyrepark, Munkholm Zoo (especially good for small children), Ebeltoft with its cobblestone streets, cosy shops and restaurants, the frigate Jylland, and Glas. In Ebeltoft, we love to drink coffee by the old fishing harbour

Here are some suggestions for things to do in the area:

Ørnbjerg Mølle: is an old watermill. The mill has a long history and is known for its natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere. The old watermill was previously used to grind grain and played an important role in the local community. Ørnbjerg Mølle is located to the northwest and offers beautiful forest areas and open landscapes. Distance from the holiday home: approx. 5 km.

The disused railway line to Ebeltoft: This peaceful route follows the old railway line and takes you directly to the charming town of Ebeltoft to the southeast. The trail is perfect for both walking and cycling and allows you to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. Distance from the holiday home: approx. 3 km.

Stubbe Lake with bird sanctuary: Stubbe Lake is the largest lake on Djursland and is located to the north. Bring your binoculars and enjoy the sight of the many different bird species that live in the area. The lake is a large but shallow lake of just under 4 km² (376 ha) with a depth of between 3 and 4 metres. Stubbe Lake was originally the end of a fjord that ran from the Kattegat slightly north of Dråby Strand and into the countryside. Today, the lake is surrounded by forest and nutrient-poor sandy soil, which makes the water clear and clean.

The Bird Protection Fund owns a 23.5-hectare bird sanctuary located on the north side of Stubbe Lake. There is a view of part of the lake from the shore of the sanctuary. You can also get a very good view of most of the lake from a bird tower built by the Danish Nature Agency at the eastern end of the lake.

Access

You can reach the Bird Protection Fund's reserve by parking in a small car park on Møllebækvej, just before you reach the town of Gravlev. From here, a nature trail leads south along the old railway line. It ends in Ebeltoft. After about 1 km, a sign points to the right towards the bird sanctuary. In the reserve, you can follow the marked trail around the area and down to the lake shore. Along the way, there is a bench in the forest where you can watch the small birds that use the feeding station, as well as a table and bench set with a view of the meadow and another table and bench set by the lake shore. At the reserve, there is a photo hide with a water basin that can be used by everyone.

Ree Park: Ree Park Safari is a safari park located in Djursland on the Jutland peninsula. The park is home to more than 800 animals of 80 species from 5 continents. Ree Park offers its guests a comprehensive insight into the lives and behaviour of animals from Europe, Africa, North America, South America and Asia.
