Welcome to Sandbakken

You are entering a cosy, old farmhouse that has been in the family for three generations. The original house has been carefully preserved and blends in nicely with the renovations carried out over the last 10-15 years. The large kitchen-diner has plenty of space for preparing meals, and the wood-burning stove creates a lovely cosy atmosphere. From here, you can look out into the garden – or rather, the park, as the 5,500 m² plot is surrounded by fields and forest as far as the eye can see. The living room also has a wood-burning stove and TV, and this is where you can curl up with a glass of wine or coffee while immersing yourself in a good book or playing board games together. In the northern wing, there are three bedrooms, and you pass the two before reaching the bathroom and the bedroom ‘the barn’, which was originally a barn but has now been converted into a really cosy bedroom with the original barn windows.

Enjoy life outdoors

The holiday home is surrounded by peaceful nature, with open spaces, trees and opportunities to experience wildlife up close. The area invites you to relax, unwind and enjoy the outdoors.

The natural grounds offer space for playing in the forest, cosy gatherings around the campfire and ball games. The large wooden terrace is the gathering point for enjoyment and relaxation. Make yourself comfortable in the wilderness bath with a cold drink, listen to and smell nature. You are neighbours with horse paddocks, and if you have your own horse, you can bring it with you on holiday and keep it in the paddock; this must of course be agreed in advance. There are five bicycles in the shed, which you are welcome to use. This oasis is close to the cycle path that leads to Kulhuse or Jægerspris, so you can take a trip along the shooting range where the military organises free guided tours by bicycle in the summer in a fantastic and exciting area rich in nature and wildlife. There are also good cycle paths and routes in Nordskoven.

Get close to local experiences

Take a trip to the beach at either Isefjord or Roskilde Fjord, just a few minutes from the holiday home. In Kulhuse, there is a sandy beach close to the harbour where the Columbus ferry can take you to Sølager and North Zealand. Take a walk in Nordskoven, where you can enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by three oak trees with a history dating back more than 1,000 years. In Jægerspris, you can visit Jægerspris Castle and take a walk in the castle park, see Countess Danner's grave and finish your trip with an ice cream in one of Denmark's most popular ice cream parlours. There are many opportunities for hiking or cycling in the area, including the Fjord Trail, which takes you along the fjord and into the

Recommendations from Holiday home owner

Welcome to Sandbakken

– our little gem in the Danish countryside. This small family home is now owned by the third generation and has been carefully restored from its original state, with a well in the courtyard and an outhouse, to what it is today.

We hope you will enjoy your days in nature, which is very close by. Animals and insects largely consider this to be their place, so they are all around you.

Deer, foxes, badgers and mice are guests around the house. There is a rich bird life, with many birds nesting in the house itself. Another regular guest is the large hornet, which is large but also extremely peaceful when not provoked by being chased.

The unspoilt nature also provides a rich insect life, where mosquitoes are probably the most intrusive guests. Mosquito repellent and mosquito coils help. Spiders also love this place. We often remove their webs, but they are diligent in making new ones.

Nordskoven is a fairly large forest and can be difficult to find your way around without a map. There is a really good app called ‘topo GPS’. The forest is known for the oldest oak trees in the Nordic region, which are around 2000 years old. The Stork Oak and the Snake Oak are also worth a visit. Not far from the Snake Oak, a pair of sea eagles have made their home. It is an incredible experience to see this large bird in flight. It is called the flying door.

We hope you will feel at home and enjoy the nature surrounding the house. The grounds cover 5,500 m2, and the small forest behind the house is perfect for children to play in and collect branches for a bonfire in the garden.

Welcome

Best regards, Hans and Bodil
