Get close to local experiences
Marstal is Ærø's largest town and exudes history and life. As you move through the streets or along the harbour, you immediately feel the proud seafaring tradition, which is still alive and well.
A visit to the Marstal Maritime Museum is almost a must. Here, history comes up close – with stories about real people and generations of sailors who have left their mark on the city.
In the city's cozy streets – Kirkestræde and Kongensgade – you will find a vibrant city life with shops, cafés and restaurants. In the summer, the city is buzzing with life with events such as By Night, and all year round, local forces provide atmospheric experiences.
Along the harbor you experience the authentic maritime environment with small dinghies, fishing nets and charming streets. Here you will also find eateries, activities and experiences for both young and old.
If you go a little outside the city, you can enjoy nature in Egehovedskoven – a beautiful area all year round – or continue out to Eriks Hale, where one of the island's best sandy beaches and the iconic beach houses await.
Marstal's history dates back to the 1600s, when the town grew from a fishing village to one of Denmark's most important maritime centres. Even the city's streets – the small "strings" – are laid out with the sea as the center, which means that you always have the water as a guideline.
At Feriepartner on Ærø, we know and love Marstal – and we look forward to sharing our local favourites with you. Here you don't just get a holiday home, but an experience of real island life, presence and history.
