The old market town of Aakirkeby is located in the southern part of Bornholm, an ideal location for the island’s beaches. Here, you will find stunning Dueodde with its white, sandy beaches winding as far as the eye can see, but Balka Beach and Boderne also rank among Bornholm’s best beaches. Aakirkeby offers historical buildings, museums, and cultural attractions. If you move towards the middle of the island, you will get to Almindingen, Denmark’s fifth-largest forest. Spend several hours exploring the terrain and the historical and cultural sights here, such as Rytterknægten and Ekkodalen.
Kjul Strand is the perfect holiday destination for relaxation and water sports activities. You can laze all day long on the wide sandy beaches or jump in the blue sea and try your hand on windsurfing. The beaches in the area have been awarded the Blue Flag certification. Surrounding the beach, you will find a number of small winding trails for you to explore dune landscape and woodlands. Kjul is a quiet little village where you can leave the hectic everyday life behind you for a while. The town is near Hirtshals where you can visit Hirtshals Lighthouse, Nordsøen Oceanarium or just enjoy dinner overlooking the harbour.
